What Are the Benefits of Carpet?

Depending in the type of carpet you choose, there are many benefits worth considering.

Certain carpets are great for homeowners who suffer from allergies because dust and dirt stay on top so they can be easily vacuumed and stay out of your breathing zone.

We also have stain-resistant carpets that can manage even the worst types of splashes and spills. Stain-resistant carpet is great for households with pets and young children.  Select carpet options are even 100% waterproof!

Best Types of Carpet

There are several factors to consider when deciding what carpet is right for you and your home’s needs.

Carpet is made from fibers that are twisted into piles. These fibers are made from different materials and will impact on how a carpet performs in your home.

Today you can find carpets made from both synthetic and natural materials. Synthetic carpet fibers include nylon, polyester, triexta, and olefin. A popular natural fiber carpet is wool.

  • Nylon is a popular carpet fiber choice. The benefits of nylon include top-quality performance and long-lasting looks. Another benefit is that nylon carpets can be treated to be stain and fade resistant.
  • Polyester is a less expensive alternative to nylon. New technology is changing the chemistry of polyester and making it more durable and now even comparable to nylon’s strength.
  • Olefin/polypropylene fibers make for amazing, patterned carpets. These carpets should be installed in low-traffic areas around your home, such as formal living rooms and formal dining rooms.
  • Wool is a natural, eco-friendly, sustainable carpet fiber. Wool is considered a hypoallergenic option because it traps allergens and stops them from floating into the breathing zone.
  • Triexta is inherently stain-resistant, and unlike nylon fibers, it does not need to be treated to be stain-resistant. Triexta also rivals the strength and durability of nylon.

What Are the Different Types of Carpet Piles?

Carpet piles refer to how each fiber is woven into your carpet’s backing and decides your rug’s overall look and style.

Some carpet piles are shorter and more secure making them better at hiding traffic marks or stains, while others are longer and more comfortable.

  • Level loop – these carpets are durable and excellent at hiding stains and traffic patterns. Uses looped and uncut yarn which can be either low and tight or high and luxurious.
  • Pattern – pattern carpets are extremely durable and great in high-activity rooms. This carpet mixes low loops and high-cut tufts to create design and dimension in the carpet which also helps hide feet and vacuum marks.
  • Frieze – this carpet utilizes highly twisted yarn to give them a unique style and hide vacuum and traffic patterns.
  • Plush – soft and luxurious, this carpet has a more formal appearance than other carpets but is not ideal for busy rooms since it tends to show traffic marks due to light reflection.
  • Texture – texture carpets are the best at hiding traffic patterns and footprints thanks to their kinked yarn that reduces light reflection.
